Sexy-as-hell

Anyone who reads contemporary romance with explicit sex scenes has read about flying shirt buttons, strenuous stairway or slippery sex in the shower and the ease of ripping $25 panties and whether or not the author has done her homework and tried all the crazy calisthenics in her books. Only Lauren Blakely would write a book that tests all of those theories and I’m so glad she did. This book was witty, endlessly amusing and sexy-as-hell and now enquiring minds have been satisfied in a most spectacular way. And by the way, don’t try the bathtub sex; it’s much more fun in the jacuzzi! I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

Fresh, Flirty and Fun friends-to-lovers story

Peyton gets a second chance with Tristan in this friends-to-lovers sexy Rom-com by Blakely. Given an opportunity to test the reality of romance novel scenarios (think: buttons popping when ripping off shirts, tearing off panties with teeth) and help her lingerie business at the same time, Peyton and Tristen get together to run the “experiments.” Even with the predictable trope, Blakely’s writing is, as always, fresh, flirty and fun, delivering a thoroughly enjoyable and light story.

I absolutely loved this book!

I absolutely LOVED this friends-to-lovers look at how romance scenes are played out in novels!! Do buttons really ping, ping, ping everywhere when shirts are ripped open? Is tub sex really possible? Can you really rip panties off with your teeth? Peyton and Triston take to the task of answering these questions and more, but they do so with trepidation at first, because hey, they are friends, but the steam they generate....WOW....there is definitely something more there. This story is so delightful, I'm having a really hard time picking my favorite book boyfriend lately...IKR...soooo hard...Tristan is scrumptious, sweet, and amazing and boy does he bring the lusty steam. They brought the chemistry and built up the "we really shouldn't" until the tea kettle was absolutely screaming. This is a perfect combo to go with Amy and Linc's story, but also can be read as a complete standalone too.

He encourages her to start her blog again and when her bestie Amy offers her the opportunity to use her blog as a tie-in to a romance novel, Peyton is all in. She just needs to find the right partner to reenact the sexy scenes from the book to see if they work in real life and then blog about the results. The only guy she trusts is Tristan and he's up for it...he just has to control his longtime feelings for Peyton. He's been in love since college but something always got in the way and he doesn't have time for a broken heart. Tristan is a fabulous hero. He's drop dead gorgeous, a successful business owner and parent to his teen brother. Responsible is his middle name and he's such a grown MAN! Swoon!! And his never ending love her Peyton is so sweet. When things turn steamy during the re-enactments Peyton sees Tristan in a new light and realizes that college kiss was everything. Sizzling chemistry takes the would-be lovers to a great place. It's just a matter of who's going to jump first and tell the other how they feel. This is a quick, easy read with a group of wonderful gal pals and a sweet and sexy romance between a couple of hotties. As usual the writing is fantastic and drew me in right from the start and kept me turning the pages as Peyton and Tristan's relationship goes from a beautiful friendship to a smoking hot romance. What a fun, sweet and so very sexy friends to lovers of romance. Lauren Blakey has delivered another swoony worthy gem with Sex and Other Shiny Objects. I couldn't wait to read this book. After reading Asking for a Friend and experiencing the undeniable "vibe" between Tristan and Peyton, I knew their story was going to have the most explosive chemistry. *Whispers* I was right. I love these characters. Individually they're great. Peyton with her big heart and dedication to her customers. And Tristan who stepped up to raise his younger brother while successfully running his own restaurant. It's obvious, they're amazing people. But them together...watch out... it's pure magic. Testing out classic romance novel scenes the way they were takes a lot of trust and respect. It is 100 percent evident that they have it in one another. This is my favorite thing about this book. The love, care and the devotion. I wouldn't do this book any justice if I didn't talk about the sexual tension. I live for the longing in this book. The unspoken wants and desires between Tristan and Peyton. As the story went on and the experiments became steamier, I felt like I needed them together just as badly as they wanted to be. It was hot and bit heart achy. But it was oh so good. If you're looking for fun and steamy slow burning friends to lovers romance with Lauren Blakely typical brand of heart, heat and banter, you'll want Sex and Other Shiny Objects. Oh also Tristan has the most deliciously dirty mouth. It's standing ovation worthy. You don't want to miss it.

Loved it! This friends to lovers storyline is sexy and witty with laugh out loud moments. The chemistry between Tristian and Peyton is sizzling hot. Their banter and friendship will pull you in and keep you hostage until the end. Another fantastic read in this series.

Love these Characters

Can I just say up front that I love Peyton & Tristan, the main characters in this Friends to Lovers story?? This is the second book in Lauren’s new Boyfriend Material series, but it’s a standalone with a happily ever after. You’ll just recognize a few other characters if you’ve read some of Lauren’s previous books. The really “fun” part of this book is the set-up of how these two get from point A to point B. Peyton is writing a companion piece to a romance novel...charged with “testing out” some of those standard sexy scenarios. Can you really rip buttons off a shirt? How about taking off your lovers clothes while heading up the stairs? And just how realistic is sex in the bath tub? Who better than one of her best friends to try these scenes with...strictly platonically. I think we all know how that’s going to work out, but it’s a hilarious and fun read to get these two to where we all want them to be. Another winner!

I brake for shiny objects!

When I smiled reading the first few pages, I knew this was going to be an enjoyable ride of a book! I laughed throughout the book along with shedding a few tears because I was rooting for Peyton and Tristan. Peyton and Tristan’s story is a slow burn friends to lovers story. The timing was never right for them, but what happens when Peyton needs help from a male with an experiment and she asks Tristan? An enjoyable story of long buried feelings, sexy times, friendship, trust, loyalty and love that I am so glad I braked for and read! I received an advanced copy of this ebook from Candi Kane PR for my honest review.

Love this series!

Another fabulous, funny, and steamy read from the mind of Lauren Blakely This is the story of Peyton and Tristan, friends since college, but they always had this vibe together, unfortunately, timing was never on their side and friends they remained for years. When an amazing and fun opportunity falls into Peyton's lap, she looks to Tristian to help her with the process of recreating romantic tropes from books.  I absolutely loved this storyline and often wondered if popping buttons and bathtub hijinks were really feasible.  The way that Ms. Blakely presents it is fresh, funny and uncomfortably real! The chemistry and familiarity between Peyton and Tristan is fantastic and the steamy scenes were just wowza! I also enjoyed the secondary storyline with Tristan and his brother Barrett.  You have to really pay attention to the dialogue and then you get a heartwarming surprise at the end. I have yet to read a story by Ms. Blakely that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed and this story is right up there with the best!

Sometimes my heart just needs a sweet, low angst romcom. Sex and Other Shiny Objects was a great blend of friends to lovers, second chance romance, and even a little fake-ish relationship/forced proximity. I'm a sucker for the pining and longing of what could have been and when circumstances change to allow our hero and heroine to FINALLY have their chance. We met Tristan and Peyton in book 1 of this series, Asking for A Friend, but this can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. I love a hero who is all in from the start, and Tristan was so incredibly swoony. He was considerate, kind hearted, and I loved the relationship he had with his brother. The cherry on top was the dirty side of him that came out to play when things started to heat up between him and Peyton. There is a little drama and back and forth as these two navigate these new waters, but I appreciated that they both resolve their conflicts and put themselves out there. There were some wonderful cameos from past characters and easter eggs sprinkled throughout and I always enjoy finding these in Lauren Blakely's books. This is such a fun series of interconnected standalones, and I'm looking forward to Lola's story next! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Worth the wait

I have been waiting for this book and finally I was able to sink my teeth into it! And let me tell you it was delicious! Peyton (lingerie store owner and blogger) and Tristan (mixologist and best friend/one that got away) sizzle and sparkle in this second chance romance with twists of humor and a bit of a slow burn. I was downright chuckling in some scenes imagining the characters as they attempted various romance scenes in their mutual experiment...and also swooning over the steamy parts! This book was delightful and a pleasure to read just like all of Lauren’s books. However, as usual she is able to make each of her books special with her attention to detail and peppering of fun facts and specific elements!

After getting a little taste of Peyton and Tristan at the end of "Asking for A Friend," I couldn't wait to get their story. And it did not disappoint. Lauren weaves such a magnificent friends-to-lovers story. I enjoyed every moment of Peyton and Tristan's journey. Seeing how their friendship grows into something so much more as they tested out experiments was fascinating. I liked Peyton and Tristan individually as well as together. Their friendship was the basis of everything. They got along so well and complemented each other perfectly. Their banter and chemistry was on point. They were just so great! I also liked seeing the friendships they had with the other side characters. This is where the family atmosphere of Lauren's world comes together so nicely. This book was sweet, passionate, and fun. Truly a wonderful read!

We were first introduced to Peyton and Tristan in Asking for a Friend and got to know them rather intimately in Sex and Other Shinny Things, Book 2 in the Boyfriend Material series. Lauren Blakely never disappoints and her first release of 2020 had me smiling and wishing for more. Peyton and Tristan are best friends who shared a kiss over a decade ago. Due to various circumstances that are well explained in the book, they never progressed to dating and Tristan always longed for more. You could feel his anguish and will route for these two the entire time. Because of her extraordinary writing talent, Lauren tells this tale with her usual charm and wit. Peyton is the successful business owner of an exclusive lingerie shop and I could absolutely see us being friends in real life. I adored her. She was smart and sweet, fun to be around, thoughtful and kind, sensual and adventurous. She found pleasure in making others happy and was a class act. Vulnerable from her long-term relationship not working out, she picked herself up and moved on, qualities I admire. Trying to boost her sales and get back into the writing world, she asks her BFF to help her with some live action research of the steamy kind, testing out various sexual encounters that are portrayed in romance novels to see if they are realistic. Can you really undress while walking up steps? Can a couple get it on in the tub? Just wait until you see what happens during their little experiments...tension builds and bodies tremble. The fact that they were friends who desired one another but have never been intimate made these scenes all the more explosive. Their chemistry was smoking hot, and my eyes were wide open page after page. Lauren brings every one of their scenes to life with great detail, and I loved the slow burn of how they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Tristan possessed many fine qualities, most importantly, his stand-up character and how he willingly became guardian of his younger brother Barrett when their mother died. He took the role seriously is a great role model. He's also smart and sensitive, generous and thoughtful, and gifted with perfect abs and a dirty mouth. He valued his friendship with Peyton who often gave him mixed signals so he kept his feelings hidden, but lost all control one night when role-playing one of their scenes. And bring a fan my friends because the things Tristan can do with his teeth are extraordinary! Peyton you are a lucky girl. If only our hero could read between the lines! I loved how well they knew each other and how they supported and comforted each other. They had great character development and confirmed why friends-to-lovers is my favorite trope. I also loved Peyton’s relationship with her mom and girlfriends who helped her keep things real and point out the obvious–that the love of her life was right in front of her all these years. My favorite part was when and how Tristan finally declared his feelings. Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. And special thanks to Lauren for including the extended epilogue of their lives in the future. I truly loved this rom-com and recommend it wholeheartedly.

5 Adorably Sexy Stars

Gah! I love a good best friends-to-lovers story and Lauren Blakely knows exactly how to write them to perfection! Sex and Other Shiny Objects is a true delight to read. It's everything I've come to expect from Blakely with fun characters, flirty banter, sexy times and a very satisfying ending. I certainly fell in love with this story and I promise that you will too! Tristan and Peyton are such fun characters! He's been in love with her for years but has settled for being best friends. He's thoughtful and caring and most definitely sexy. He'd pretty much do anything for Peyton. She is witty and sensual and that shines through in her successful lingerie shop. She didn't realize she was in love with her best friend until much later but when the realization comes it's epic. I adored Tristan and Peyton's relationship so much. It was easy and fun. Their flirty banter was certainly a highlight for me. When they come together, the sparks are undeniable. I loved how they went about trying out different sexual scenes from romance tropes. Talk about creative inspiration! Blakely's brilliant idea for this storyline pays off in spades. It's both entertaining and heartwarming at the same time. Readers will fall in love with the characters and the story from start to finish. I found myself constantly smiling and happy throughout. Blakely nailed this one 100%!! 5 stars

Sex and Other Shiny Objects was a great blend of friends to lovers, second chance romance, and even a little fake-ish relationship/forced proximity. I'm a sucker for the pining and longing of what could have been and when circumstances change to allow our hero and heroine to FINALLY have their chance. We met Tristan and Peyton in book 1 of this series, Asking for A Friend, but this can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. I love a hero who is all in from the start, and Tristan was so incredibly swoony. He was considerate, kind hearted, and I loved the relationship he had with his brother. The cherry on top was the dirty side of him that came out to play when things started to heat up between him and Peyton. There is a little drama and back and forth as these two navigate these new waters, but I appreciated that they both resolve their conflicts and put themselves out there. There were some wonderful cameos from past characters and easter eggs sprinkled throughout and I always enjoy finding these in Lauren Blakely's books. This is such a fun series of interconnected standalones, and I'm looking forward to Lola's story next! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Worth the wait

I have been waiting for this book and finally I was able to sink my teeth into it! And let me tell you it was delicious! Peyton (lingerie store owner and blogger) and Tristan (mixologist and best friend/one that got away) sizzle and sparkle in this second chance romance with twists of humor and a bit of a slow burn. I was downright chuckling in some scenes imagining the characters as they attempted various romance scenes in their mutual experiment...and also swooning over the steamy parts! This book was delightful and a pleasure to read just like all of Lauren’s books. However, as usual she is able to make each of her books special with her attention to detail and peppering of fun facts and specific elements!

After getting a little taste of Peyton and Tristan at the end of "Asking for A Friend," I couldn't wait to get their story. And it did not disappoint. Lauren weaves such a magnificent friends-to-lovers story. I enjoyed every moment of Peyton and Tristan's journey. Seeing how their friendship grows into something so much more as they tested out experiments was fascinating. I liked Peyton and Tristan individually as well as together. Their friendship was the basis of everything. They got along so well and complemented each other perfectly. Their banter and chemistry was on point. They were just so great! I also liked seeing the friendships they had with the other side characters. This is where the family atmosphere of Lauren's world comes together so nicely. This book was sweet, passionate, and fun. We were first introduced to Peyton and Tristan in Asking for a Friend and got to know them rather intimately in Sex and Other Shinny Things, Book 2 in the Boyfriend Material series. Lauren Blakely never disappoints and her first release of 2020 had me smiling and wishing for more. Peyton and Tristan are best friends who shared a kiss over a decade ago. Due to various circumstances that are well explained in the book, they never progressed to dating and Tristan always longed for more. You could feel his anguish and will route for these two the entire time. Because of her extraordinary writing talent, Lauren tells this tale with her usual charm and wit. Peyton is the successful business owner of an exclusive lingerie shop and I could absolutely see us being friends in real life. I adored her. She was smart and sweet, fun to be around, thoughtful and kind, sensual and adventurous. She found pleasure in making others happy and was a class act. Vulnerable from her long-term relationship not working out, she picked herself up and moved on, qualities I admire. Trying to boost her sales and get back into the writing world, she asks her BFF to help her with some live action research of the steamy kind, testing out various sexual encounters that are portrayed in romance novels to see if they are realistic. Can you really undress while walking up steps? Can a couple get it on in the tub? Just wait until you see what happens during their little experiments...tension builds and bodies tremble. The fact that they were friends who desired one another but have never been intimate made these scenes all the more explosive. Their chemistry was smoking hot, and my eyes were wide open page after page. Lauren brings every one of their scenes to life with great detail, and I loved the slow burn of how they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Tristan possessed many fine qualities, most importantly, his stand-up character and how he willingly became guardian of his younger brother Barrett when their mother died. He took the role seriously is a great role model. He's also smart and sensitive, generous and thoughtful, and gifted with perfect abs and a dirty mouth. He valued his friendship with Peyton who often gave him mixed signals so he kept his feelings hidden, but lost all control one night when role-playing one of their scenes. And bring a fan my friends because the things Tristan can do with his teeth are extraordinary! Peyton you are a lucky girl. If only our hero could read between the lines! I loved how well they knew each other and how they supported and comforted each other. They had great character development and confirmed why friends-to-lovers is my favorite trope. I also loved Peyton’s relationship with her mom and girlfriends who helped her keep things real and point out the obvious–that the love of her life was right in front of her all these years. My favorite part was when and how Tristan finally declared his feelings. Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. And special thanks to Lauren for including the extended epilogue of their lives in the future. I truly loved this rom-com and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Gah! I love a good best friends-to-lovers story and Lauren Blakely knows exactly how to write them to perfection! Sex and Other Shiny Objects is a true delight to read. It's everything I've come to expect from Blakely with fun characters, flirty banter, sexy times and a very satisfying ending. I certainly fell in love with this story and I promise that you will too! Tristan and Peyton are such fun characters! He's been in love with her for years but has settled for being best friends. He's thoughtful and caring and most definitely sexy. He'd pretty much do anything for Peyton. She is witty and sensual and that shines through in her successful lingerie shop. She didn't realize she was in love with her best friend until much later but when the realization comes it's epic. I adored Tristan and Peyton's relationship so much. It was easy and fun. Their flirty banter was certainly a highlight for me. When they come together, the sparks are undeniable. I loved how they went about trying out different sexual scenes from romance tropes. Talk about creative inspiration! Blakely's brilliant idea for this storyline pays off in spades. It's both entertaining and heartwarming at the same time. Anyone who reads contemporary romance with explicit sex scenes has read about flying shirt buttons, strenuous stairway or slippery sex in the shower and the ease of ripping $25 panties and whether or not the author has done her homework and tried all the crazy calisthenics in her books. Only Lauren Blakely would write a book that tests all of those theories and I’m so glad she did. This book was witty, endlessly amusing and sexy-as-hell and now enquiring minds have been satisfied in a most spectacular way. And by the way, don’t try the bathtub sex; it’s much more fun in the jacuzzi! I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

I absolutely LOVED this friends-to-lovers look at how romance scenes are played out in novels!! Do buttons really ping, ping, ping everywhere when shirts are ripped open? Is tub sex really possible? Can you really rip panties off with your teeth? Peyton and Triston take to the task of answering these questions and more, but they do so with trepidation at first, because hey, they are friends, but the steam they generate....WOW....there is definitely something more there. This story is so delightful, I'm having a really hard time picking my favorite book boyfriend lately...IKR...soooo hard...Tristan is scrumptious, sweet, and amazing and boy does he bring the lusty steam. They brought the chemistry and built up the "we really shouldn't" until the tea kettle was absolutely screaming. This is a perfect combo to go with Amy and Linc's story, but also can be read as a complete standalone too.

He's drop dead gorgeous, a successful business owner and parent to his teen brother. Responsible is his middle name and he's such a grown MAN! Swoon!! And his never ending love her Peyton is so sweet. When things turn steamy during the re-enactments Peyton sees Tristan in a new light and realizes that college kiss was everything. Sizzling chemistry takes the would-be lovers to a great place. It's just a matter of who's going to jump first and tell the other how they feel. This is a quick, easy read with a group of wonderful gal pals and a sweet and sexy romance between a couple of hotties. As usual the writing is fantastic and drew me in right from the start and kept me turning the pages as Peyton and Tristan's relationship goes from a beautiful friendship to a smoking hot romance. What a fun, sweet and so very sexy friends to lovers of romance. Lauren Blakey has delivered another swoony worthy gem with Sex and Other Shiny Objects. I couldn't wait to read this book. After reading Asking for a Friend and experiencing the undeniable "vibe" between Tristan and Peyton, I knew their story was going to have the most explosive chemistry. *Whispers* I was right. I love these characters. Individually they're great. Peyton with her big heart and dedication to her customers. And Tristan who stepped up to raise his younger brother while successfully running his own restaurant. It's obvious, they're amazing people. But them together...watch out... it's pure magic. Testing out classic romance novel scenes the way they were takes a lot of trust and respect. It is 100 percent evident that they have it in one another. This is my favorite thing about this book. The love, care and the devotion. I wouldn't do this book any justice if I didn't talk about the sexual tension. I live for the longing in this book. The unspoken wants and desires between Tristan and Peyton. As the story went on and the experiments became steamier, I felt like I needed them together just as badly as they wanted to be. It was hot and bit heart achy. But it was oh so good. If you're looking for fun and steamy slow burning friends to lovers romance with Lauren Blakely typical brand of heart, heat and banter, you'll want Sex and Other Shiny Objects. Love these Characters

Can I just say up front that I love Peyton & Tristan, the main characters in this Friends to Lovers story?? This is the second book in Lauren’s new Boyfriend Material series, but it’s a standalone with a happily ever after. You’ll just recognize a few other characters if you’ve read some of Lauren’s previous books. The really “fun” part of this book is the set-up of how these two get from point A to point B. Peyton is writing a companion piece to a romance novel...charged with “testing out” some of those standard sexy scenarios. Can you really rip buttons off a shirt? How about taking off your lovers clothes while heading up the stairs? And just how realistic is sex in the bath tub? Who better than one of her best friends to try these scenes with...strictly platonically. I think we all know how that’s going to work out, but it’s a hilarious and fun read to get these two to where we all want them to be. Another winner!

When I smiled reading the first few pages, I knew this was going to be an enjoyable ride of a book! I laughed throughout the book along with shedding a few tears because I was rooting for Peyton and Tristan. Peyton and Tristan’s story is a slow burn friends to lovers story. The timing was never right for them, but what happens when Peyton needs help from a male with an experiment and she asks Tristan? An enjoyable story of long buried feelings, sexy times, friendship, trust, loyalty and love that I am so glad I braked for and read! Love this series!

Another fabulous, funny, and steamy read from the mind of Lauren Blakely This is the story of Peyton and Tristan, friends since college, but they always had this vibe together, unfortunately, timing was never on their side and friends they remained for years. When an amazing and fun opportunity falls into Peyton's lap, she looks to Tristian to help her with the process of recreating romantic tropes from books.  I absolutely loved this storyline and often wondered if popping buttons and bathtub hijinks were really feasible.  The way that Ms. Blakely presents it is fresh, funny and uncomfortably real! The chemistry and familiarity between Peyton and Tristan is fantastic and the steamy scenes were just wowza! I also enjoyed the secondary storyline with Tristan and his brother Barrett.  You have to really pay attention to the dialogue and then you get a heartwarming surprise at the end. I have yet to read a story by Ms. Blakely that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed and this story is right up there with the best!

What a fun, sweet and so very sexy friends to lovers of romance. Lauren Blakey has delivered another swoony worthy gem with Sex and Other Shiny Objects. I couldn't wait to read this book. After reading Asking for a Friend and experiencing the undeniable "vibe" between Tristan and Peyton, I knew their story was going to have the most explosive chemistry. *Whispers* I was right. I love these characters. Individually they're great. Peyton with her big heart and dedication to her customers. And Tristan who stepped up to raise his younger brother while successfully running his own restaurant. It's obvious, they're amazing people. But them together...watch out... it's pure magic. Testing out classic romance novel scenes the way they were takes a lot of trust and respect. It is 100 percent evident that they have it in one another. This is my favorite thing about this book. The love, care and the devotion. I wouldn't do this book any justice if I didn't talk about the sexual tension. I live for the longing in this book. The unspoken wants and desires between Tristan and Peyton. As the story went on and the experiments became steamier, I felt like I needed them together just as badly as they wanted to be. It was hot and bit heart achy. But it was oh so good. Love these Characters

Can I just say up front that I love Peyton & Tristan, the main characters in this Friends to Lovers story?? This is the second book in Lauren’s new Boyfriend Material series, but it’s a standalone with a happily ever after. You’ll just recognize a few other characters if you’ve read some of Lauren’s previous books. The really “fun” part of this book is the set-up of how these two get from point A to point B. Peyton is writing a companion piece to a romance novel...charged with “testing out” some of those standard sexy scenarios. Can you really rip buttons off a shirt? How about taking off your lovers clothes while heading up the stairs? And just how realistic is sex in the bath tub? Who better than one of her best friends to try these scenes with...strictly platonically. I think we all know how that’s going to work out, but it’s a hilarious and fun read to get these two to where we all want them to be. Another winner!

When I smiled reading the first few pages, I knew this was going to be an enjoyable ride of a book! I laughed throughout the book along with shedding a few tears because I was rooting for Peyton and Tristan. Peyton and Tristan’s story is a slow burn friends to lovers story. The timing was never right for them, but what happens when Peyton needs help from a male with an experiment and she asks Tristan? An enjoyable story of long buried feelings, sexy times, friendship, trust, loyalty and love that I am so glad I braked for and read! Love this series!

Another fabulous, funny, and steamy read from the mind of Lauren Blakely This is the story of Peyton and Tristan, friends since college, but they always had this vibe together, unfortunately, timing was never on their side and friends they remained for years. When an amazing and fun opportunity falls into Peyton's lap, she looks to Tristian to help her with the process of recreating romantic tropes from books.  I absolutely loved this storyline and often wondered if popping buttons and bathtub hijinks were really feasible.  The way that Ms. Blakely presents it is fresh, funny and uncomfortably real! The chemistry and familiarity between Peyton and Tristan is fantastic and the steamy scenes were just wowza! I also enjoyed the secondary storyline with Tristan and his brother Barrett.  You have to really pay attention to the dialogue and then you get a heartwarming surprise at the end. I have yet to read a story by Ms. Blakely that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed and this story is right up there with the best!

Sometimes my heart just needs a sweet, low angst romcom. Sex and Other Shiny Objects was a great blend of friends to lovers, second chance romance, and even a little fake-ish relationship/forced proximity. I'm a sucker for the pining and longing of what could have been and when circumstances change to allow our hero and heroine to FINALLY have their chance. We met Tristan and Peyton in book 1 of this series, Asking for A Friend, but this can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. I love a hero who is all in from the start, and Tristan was so incredibly swoony. He was considerate, kind hearted, and I loved the relationship he had with his brother. The cherry on top was the dirty side of him that came out to play when things started to heat up between him and Peyton. There is a little drama and back and forth as these two navigate these new waters, but I appreciated that they both resolve their conflicts and put themselves out there. There were some wonderful cameos from past characters and easter eggs sprinkled throughout and I always enjoy finding these in Lauren Blakely's books. This is such a fun series of interconnected standalones, and I'm looking forward to Lola's story next! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Worth the wait

I have been waiting for this book and finally I was able to sink my teeth into it! And let me tell you it was delicious! Peyton (lingerie store owner and blogger) and Tristan (mixologist and best friend/one that got away) sizzle and sparkle in this second chance romance with twists of humor and a bit of a slow burn. I was downright chuckling in some scenes imagining the characters as they attempted various romance scenes in their mutual experiment...and also swooning over the steamy parts! This book was delightful and a pleasure to read just like all of Lauren’s books. However, as usual she is able to make each of her books special with her attention to detail and peppering of fun facts and specific elements!

Seeing how their friendship grows into something so much more as they tested out experiments was fascinating. I liked Peyton and Tristan individually as well as together. We were first introduced to Peyton and Tristan in Asking for a Friend and got to know them rather intimately in Sex and Other Shinny Things, Book 2 in the Boyfriend Material series. Lauren Blakely never disappoints and her first release of 2020 had me smiling and wishing for more. Peyton and Tristan are best friends who shared a kiss over a decade ago. Due to various circumstances that are well explained in the book, they never progressed to dating and Tristan always longed for more. You could feel his anguish and will route for these two the entire time. Because of her extraordinary writing talent, Lauren tells this tale with her usual charm and wit. Peyton is the successful business owner of an exclusive lingerie shop and I could absolutely see us being friends in real life. I adored her. She was smart and sweet, fun to be around, thoughtful and kind, sensual and adventurous. She found pleasure in making others happy and was a class act. Vulnerable from her long-term relationship not working out, she picked herself up and moved on, qualities I admire. Trying to boost her sales and get back into the writing world, she asks her BFF to help her with some live action research of the steamy kind, testing out various sexual encounters that are portrayed in romance novels to see if they are realistic. Can you really undress while walking up steps? Can a couple get it on in the tub? Just wait until you see what happens during their little experiments...tension builds and bodies tremble. The fact that they were friends who desired one another but have never been intimate made these scenes all the more explosive. Their chemistry was smoking hot, and my eyes were wide open page after page. Lauren brings every one of their scenes to life with great detail, and I loved the slow burn of how they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Tristan possessed many fine qualities, most importantly, his stand-up character and how he willingly became guardian of his younger brother Barrett when their mother died. He took the role seriously is a great role model. He's also smart and sensitive, generous and thoughtful, and gifted with perfect abs and a dirty mouth. He valued his friendship with Peyton who often gave him mixed signals so he kept his feelings hidden, but lost all control one night when role-playing one of their scenes. And bring a fan my friends because the things Tristan can do with his teeth are extraordinary! Peyton you are a lucky girl. If only our hero could read between the lines! I loved how well they knew each other and how they supported and comforted each other. They had great character development and confirmed why friends-to-lovers is my favorite trope. I also loved Peyton’s relationship with her mom and girlfriends who helped her keep things real and point out the obvious–that the love of her life was right in front of her all these years. My favorite part was when and how Tristan finally declared his feelings. Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. And special thanks to Lauren for including the extended epilogue of their lives in the future. I truly loved this rom-com and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Gah! I love a good best friends-to-lovers story and Lauren Blakely knows exactly how to write them to perfection! Sex and Other Shiny Objects is a true delight to read. It's everything I've come to expect from Blakely with fun characters, flirty banter, sexy times and a very satisfying ending. I certainly fell in love with this story and I promise that you will too! Tristan and Peyton are such fun characters! He's been in love with her for years but has settled for being best friends. He's thoughtful and caring and most definitely sexy. He'd pretty much do anything for Peyton. She is witty and sensual and that shines through in her successful lingerie shop. She didn't realize she was in love with her best friend until much later but when the realization comes it's epic. I adored Tristan and Peyton's relationship so much. It was easy and fun. Their flirty banter was certainly a highlight for me. When they come together, the sparks are undeniable. I loved how they went about trying out different sexual scenes from romance tropes. Talk about creative inspiration! Blakely's brilliant idea for this storyline pays off in spades. It's both entertaining and heartwarming at the same time. Readers will fall in love with the characters and the story from start to finish. I found myself constantly smiling and happy throughout. Blakely nailed this one 100%!! 5 stars

Anyone who reads contemporary romance with explicit sex scenes has read about flying shirt buttons, strenuous stairway or slippery sex in the shower and the ease of ripping $25 panties and whether or not the author has done her homework and tried all the crazy calisthenics in her books. Only Lauren Blakely would write a book that tests all of those theories and I’m so glad she did. This book was witty, endlessly amusing and sexy-as-hell and now enquiring minds have been satisfied in a most spectacular way. And by the way, don’t try the bathtub sex; it’s much more fun in the jacuzzi! I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

Vulnerable from her long-term relationship not working out, she picked herself up and moved on, qualities I admire. Trying to boost her sales and get back into the writing world, she asks her BFF to help her with some live action research of the steamy kind, testing out various sexual encounters that are portrayed in romance novels to see if they are realistic. Can you really undress while walking up steps? Can a couple get it on in the tub? Just wait until you see what happens during their little experiments...tension builds and bodies tremble. The fact that they were friends who desired one another but have never been intimate made these scenes all the more explosive. Their chemistry was smoking hot, and my eyes were wide open page after page. Lauren brings every one of their scenes to life with great detail, and I loved the slow burn of how they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Tristan possessed many fine qualities, most importantly, his stand-up character and how he willingly became guardian of his younger brother Barrett when their mother died. He took the role seriously is a great role model. He's also smart and sensitive, generous and thoughtful, and gifted with perfect abs and a dirty mouth. He valued his friendship with Peyton who often gave him mixed signals so he kept his feelings hidden, but lost all control one night when role-playing one of their scenes. And bring a fan my friends because the things Tristan can do with his teeth are extraordinary! Peyton you are a lucky girl. If only our hero could read between the lines! I loved how well they knew each other and how they supported and comforted each other. They had great character development and confirmed why friends-to-lovers is my favorite trope. I also loved Peyton’s relationship with her mom and girlfriends who helped her keep things real and point out the obvious–that the love of her life was right in front of her all these years. My favorite part was when and how Tristan finally declared his feelings. Swoon. Swoon. Swoon. And special thanks to Lauren for including the extended epilogue of their lives in the future. I truly loved this rom-com and recommend it wholeheartedly.

5 Adorably Sexy Stars

Gah! I love a good best friends-to-lovers story and Lauren Blakely knows exactly how to write them to perfection! Sex and Other Shiny Objects is a true delight to read. It's everything I've come to expect from Blakely with fun characters, flirty banter, sexy times and a very satisfying ending. I certainly fell in love with this story and I promise that you will too! Tristan and Peyton are such fun characters! He's been in love with her for years but has settled for being best friends. He's thoughtful and caring and most definitely sexy. He'd pretty much do anything for Peyton. She is witty and sensual and that shines through in her successful lingerie shop. She didn't realize she was in love with her best friend until much later but when the realization comes it's epic. I adored Tristan and Peyton's relationship so much. It was easy and fun. Their flirty banter was certainly a highlight for me. When they come together, the sparks are undeniable. I loved how they went about trying out different sexual scenes from romance tropes. Talk about creative inspiration! Blakely's brilliant idea for this storyline pays off in spades. It's both entertaining and heartwarming at the same time. Readers will fall in love with the characters and the story from start to finish. I found myself constantly smiling and happy throughout. Blakely nailed this one 100%!! 5 stars
